As with many buildings of its age, the Kentigern has reported several instances of possible hauntings.
Many years ago, it was reported that a young girl was murdered in Room 4 (one of the hirable B&B rooms) and in the little room next to it a baby is rumoured to have been tragically murdered as well. Even in the middle of summer, some people staying in Room 4 have reported to never have been able to get warm when every other room in the building has been at a normal temperature. The central heating works efficiently so is there a ghost there that only makes its presence known to certain people?
One of our bar staff recently descended the cellar steps to change a barrel of beer and was certain that someone was calling his full name, unknown to many of the customers. He can back to the bar to find no-one had summoned him, so went back to the task in hand only to hear his name called again. Later, he recounted that his father had worked in the Kentigern many, many years back and during his break would go down to the cellar to have one of his "staff drinks". Bob used to often go down with his father who would shout out "Robert" if he wanted to attract his attention. Could this be a ghost?
One night, the landlady was having an after-hours nightcap with a friend. All the lights, except the corner they were sitting in, were turned off and dishes were soaking in the kitchen sink ready to be washed. Suddenly, both people heard what sounded like someone washing the dishes - with the back door being locked and the only access to the kitchen being the door they were sitting by, they both went to investigate. No one was at the sink, but the kitchen light had been turned on! Mystified by this occurance they turned the light out and went back to sit down. After a few minutes one of them went to use the loo and the kitchen light had mysteriously come back on......
If you can explain glasses suddenly shattering into bits, the dishwasher plug disappearing for months and then being thrown to the ground suddenly behind the bar, optics falling off the shelf with the bottles remaining in one piece and landing on their base, a customer's glass swinging violenty who had recently passed away..... then........ do you dare explore the possibilities of the haunted Kentigern?
